Hale Wind Farm is a 478-megawatt wind energy facility located northeast of Petersburg, Texas. Built by Wanzek Construction, the Hale Wind Project is one of two large wind energy facilities the client built and owns in order to supply low-cost electricity to its customers in Texas and New Mexico. The project employed 525 workers at its peak and created 30 permanent jobs for locals. The client’s regional wind energy expansion projects are set to save customers close to $2 billion in energy costs over 30 years by offsetting natural gas-fueled electricity generation with clean wind energy that has no associated fuel costs.
Project Scope:
- Constructed over 68 miles of new road
- Excavated 239 wind turbines foundations
- Installed 5,000 tons of rebar
- Poured 87,000 CY of concrete
- Constructed a 345 kVA substation along with 15 miles of 345 kVA transmission line
- Installed over 169 miles of underground collection cable on 22 different circuits
- Self-performed all electrical terminations
- Safely offloaded over 2,000 wind turbine components and parts
- Safely performed over 1,900 critical lifts when installing all the wind turbines
