Statistical or Overview Information
Start Date: Spring 2016
Completion Date: Late Fall 2016
The Sterling Wind project was the first wind farm developed by Akuo Energy in the United States. The project is located in New Mexico on a site with optimum wind resources, guaranteeing outstanding levels of performance and production; its production-to-capacity factor is close to 50%. All of the electricity generated is sold directly to a local cooperative, the Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC), which is the largest producer of electricity in the New Mexico region and is owned by local investors. This project contributes to the energy independence of local cooperatives and, more broadly, forms part of the Clean Power Plan adopted by the USA to develop renewable energy in the country.
